As long as everyone is in agreement with what’s really going on, then all will be well…well, more than well. Things can reach great climactic heights!! I know you have you’re own feelings, and no one quite understands what you’re going through. But we are trying, you know? The tendency is to run from what frightens us, or to fight and yell and battle. But accidents happen when such carelessness occurs, and then tragic unfortunate losses could follow. I see a lot of smart assyness. Perhaps I myself am contributing! Teasing is never good, taunting never works. But these types of Turrettes-like outbursts sometimes have a degree or two of truth in them, but then if we are so blunt, then we do hurt the ones we love. Its just…there is so much going on these days, and our minds are rebelling from the traditional ways of communication, to a more psychic and unspoken connection. So if you can realize your true ability of positive non-verbal communication, then my dears, you have progressed far more than they ever thought you would.

Does family give you your energy? Does your career feed your hunger 100%? If you are single, where will you receive your love from, and once you have attained love, how will you keep it, nurture it, grow it…so that it doesn’t pass you by as fast as it approached you? I see beautiful and slender fingers, but I see something very precious slip out of that hand.

On one side, there is loud beauty and active attraction, strong feelings of passion. On the other side, there is a detached and vague air, which doesn’t sit very well with our brave and loud lovely. Everyone’s’ needs should be taken care of. But we also desire our own space to think, ponder, and explore our inner realities. So there is the applying clash, people… outward excessiveness that is quite sexy and aggressive, but it goes up against a scientific hermit-like idealism, which is not geared towards sharing, outward exchanges, or even communication (at all). Which side is right? There is none that will win right now because there is a balance in an equal opposition.

There is a large mental capacity that will work with the center to achieve the greatest good. So by now, you’ve thought about it…I can tell you are more curious about magick. Here is an article I have written about the basics of practicing Western Ritual Magick. These conclusions are based on my experiences with actually doing these things, as well as research I have done…about 15 years worth.
In our modern magick of the west, what we have is essentially, an amalgam of what has been recorded, set down in word or translatable symbol, of times and cultures past. It is a blend…heavy on western civilizations’ traditions obviously, but with other cultures now thrown into the mix. There is no one way or right way…whatever works is whatever works, magick is all is the same…..eastern vs western, reconstructionist, neo…whatever..those arguments are lame and ineffectual (I want results…do you?) But it is mainly Western Modern Magick I will speak of today.
In this magick, there are building blocks. Four “elements”, plus the addition of what is called “spirit”, which could be said as the activator, the force behind energy, a god-energy, or the ability we possess (given to us from our creator) to do magick..(it may be likened to ”the force”, in the movie Star Wars). The elements are fire, earth, air, and water. As the physical realm we live in could be said to have these physical elements, so it is said that these elements exist on another plane, in which they are slightly different. They are finer, lighter, more subtle, they are blueprints…guidelines…we can manipulate things easier, perhaps, in this other “plane”.
This plane of existence is thought of as astral, or ethereal….whatever term you want to use…perhaps we go there, or through there, upon entering our dream state. But the in human mind dream state, the ego sleeps, and the “Id” is left untrained, uncontrollable, it is the childlike aspect of our brains, that Carl Jung speaks of. It takes run of the roost…the super-conscience is slowed down, repressed, or angered, by the childlike control of the Id.
So dream-time is perhaps, theoretically, a place where you could use your will in accordance to get what you want, causing change to occur in whatever situation, in whatever way you wished, and then see it physically manifest in this plane we are in. Perhaps we could train to do this, but dream-time is still chaos for modern man at this time, and I don’t see that as an easily changeable thing.
That brings me to chaos… an important term. I create order out of chaos as a magician. I create a circle around myself, energetically, to divide the chaos and order. Because what I’m doing is creating order out of chaos. The physical realm (or conscience state) is, like the astral or ethereal “realms”, a sea of chaotic energies, an ever changing energetic ocean, where order or structure must be created, to achieve some sort of manifestation, or solidification, in this physical world.
I use the word realm, as a way to describe the mind state we need to get to, to start causing changes around us. In the beginning, by “drawing” or “cutting” a boundary around ourselves, or by simply thinking it to be there, and then knowing it is there, we are creating the place where we can control everything, our own castle in a way. (I will get to the ‘towers in another article…too much for one day). So now, we are in the mind state where we can control everything, and then with efforts, actually see it manifest outside the circle (in the physical realm, or conscience state). That is why the circle is so important, in my experience, because trying to do magick without a circle is like trying to drink a glass of wine under the water.
So in our circle, then we must have some sort of source for energy that we can manipulate, because we cant use our own. Maybe that is why I call upon the element of “water”. I’m calling something to myself, that I may change, alter, manipulate, to make into what I want. But why water? Because I use the term water to describe what I am calling to myself…if I need a source of energy that is refreshing, healing, revitalizing, then I use the word water to describe this. In the astral realm, or, our little castle-like circle, I can do whatever I want with “water”. It responds to me, and only to me. I program it to do something, the energy remembers, I open my castle gates, and let it out on its merry way in the physical realm, to do as I have programmed it to do.
So technically, you don’t have to use “fire, earth, air, water and spirit”, but I find these 5 terms (now, by constant repetitive use by us humans, and having derived its own special power from our repetitive use of it) to be of special effectiveness. Yes I have called 4 winds, 4 watchers, 5 colors, three norns, dragons, gods, etc.. I have called limitless “things” and “energies” into my circle, and you will perhaps do that too. But with these basic, and by now familiar, 5 aspects of magick (hence, the 5 pointed star) I recommend starting out with these, and of course, using the circle too.
The circle should be drawn clockwise, or deosil (pronounced jessil) for rituals that need to attract or grow things. Traditionally, you start your circle in the quarter of the east, but it is up to you to decide what feels best. For rituals or spells that need to repel or reduce, or banish, cast it counterclockwise, if you are brave enough, called widdershins. When you are all done with your magical ritual or endeavor, you need to release or send out what you have called forth.
When you call something, you will have to be in control, you will have to tell “it” to leave when your all done, otherwise, things do hang around. Energies have to have a full purpose…they need to know what it is there supposed to do, and they rely upon your completeness in programming to know how to do it (one exception…don’t ask or tell a god to leave, they’re not the ones that will do your little task for you anyways…they are not servants, and they don’t do our bidding). Then lastly, open, pull up, or pull in, your circle. Don’t ever banish it.
By the way, for those of you that want to actually do this, It helps to form your own sort of magical “correspondence” chart. If you are calling things to your circle, then you must know how to be successful at this. You want a response..you want to attract a certain thing, or maybe repel….certain things. Symbols…its about that. Lining things up…how can I explain this….well, here’s mine. Just take a look, and let the chart explain itself.
Earth is North, midnight, winter, black, feminine (yin), cold and dry, stable, constrictive/productive, growth or decay, predictable, reliable, hardworking, trustworthy, stubborn, concentrated, Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn, Saturn, Venus, Friday, Saturday. It is herbs, soil, flowers, stones, gems, food, money, the pentacle, the suit of coins, the pages.
Air is East, dawn, spring, yellow, masculine (yang), hot and moist, invisible, non-conforming, intelligence, poetry, inspiration, objectiveness, thoughts, unpredictable/balanced, clarity, Gemini, Libra, Aquarius, Mercury, Uranus, Wednesday. It is breath, a feather, a fan, the athame, the suit of swords, the kings.
Fire is South, noon, summer, red, masculine (yang), hot and dry, creative/destructive, purification, power unadulterated, action, the will, determination, war, conflict. Aries, Leo, Sagittarius, Sun, Mars, Jupiter, Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday. It is a candle, the wand, the flame, matches, dry branches and papers, the suit of wands, the knights.
Water is West, dusk, autumn, blue, feminine (yin), cold and wet, conforming or uncontrollable, overwhelming, irrational/emotional, refreshing, nurturing, reviving, healing. There is either too much, or not enough (excessiveness/depletion). Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces, Moon, Pluto (?), Neptune, Monday. It is the chalice, wine, water, the suit of cups, the queens.
The more things you can line up, the more success you will have at attracting the right energies to your circle, controlling and programming them, and then seeing the results manifest. For if life is a constant sea of energy, then we must have some sort of way to control it.
Maybe some of you are curious about what I call Magick. I, like many others, add the “k” to this word sometimes, to differentiate between what I do as a practicing witch (I dont really like that term either, I like…magician..or..sorceress) and what the stage artist does, with pulling a rabbit out of a hat.
Magick is, by accepted definition, the process of using ones’ will to cause changes, whether it be change within, or change without, oneself . Well then, dont we do this on a daily basis, with just any action, to accomplish any goal? Then am I doing magick right now? As my goal is to educate, so my action is then writing this article. Then isnt this then, by definition, magick? I will say No, because I make a differential right here:
A “regular” action is… writing, putting your shoes on, acing an interview cuz you got skills like dat, whatever. Those are all things we do on a daily basis, our regular actions, to achieve our goals.
But what if I told you there were ways of doing things that were not “regular”, that were not “daily”, that used other means to achieve the same goal, or, more, importantly, that add extraordinary strength, power, and effectiveness to ones success in achieving ones goals?
This may be called a magickal act. It is different then a regular act, by at least a few ways:
Magick uses a mental process, that could be said to trick the human brain…lull it into a state of being, where the word or concept of “impossible” ceases to exist. To get to this state of being, people do certain things… ritual processes, drugs, suppression of one or part or all of the 5 senses, or symbolism, that tap into an ancient and prehistoric file, in the human brain, that somehow restores certain abilities…. that can only be described, in generic terms, as “magickal”.
I mentioned symbolism…Im sure a few of you know…how cute, ….a love spell, light a pink candle, on Friday, when the moon is waxing, preferable in the signs of Taurus or Libra, put roses around the candle. Slice an apple crosswise, and look at the star…etc…. that is a common spell that works, if done by one who knows what their actually doing. That is symbolism, and those actions, not exactly “regular”, may somehow lull the magician into a state of being, so that their own mind, their own personal energy, can effect the situation around them, drawing love to themselves.
Your probably saying, why doesnt she just go out and meet new people, internet date, blah blah blah…well I say, what if she has tried all those things, done all that crap, and she is still lonely? What if doing this symbolic gesture, puts her own brain into a frame of mind where it can finally draw to itself, that which the arms, hands, feet, and mouth, have not been able to draw?…love.
The universe is made up of energy, and energy exists in particles and waves. The human mind gives off energy, and must certainly, then, be capable of effecting the environs around itself, even without physical actions, or physical manipulation of the world around itself, by its corporeal body (hands, feet, arms, mouth etc)
A pretty spell like the one above is effective, and magickal, but the real goal of the magician is to ultimately be able to simply to think up what the goal is, and then make it happen, without having to light a candle, or slice an apple.
So, is magick then, just doin’ stuff with your brain, instead of your arms, legs, mouth, etc? Perhaps yes, but, dont discount how much farther, and more effective, the brain can effect its surroundings, then, as compared to ordinary physical maneuvers.
In my opinion, magick assists us, it is there for us to use, there are no secrets…I believe magick is an art form, once learned, can create a thing of beauty, or a thing of ugliness, depending on the artist….and the viewer.

Everyone has the ability to be psychic, and you all know you have “those times” when you just knew what was going to happen, prior to it actually occuring. Perhaps along the course of human evolution, we have lost some of our psychic faculties, as development in things like language and art, science and reasoning, have shaped and altered human life, and have caused changes to our senses. Our extra sense does exist, and you can reclaim it, with some efforts.
Here is a brief article on basic divination for begginers….. doing simple things like this does help strengthen your psychism.
The definition of divination is …1.The act of divining; a foreseeing of future events; 2. An indication of what is secret; augury omens; prediction.
That being said, there is usually whats called a “medium” in divination. The medium is anything you want it to be. The clouds passing by in the sky, the tea leaves left in a cup and saucer, tarot cards, sticks stones, shells bones….oil on water, and for the advanced diviners…scrying into a flame, a crystal, a dark mirror, a blank computer screen, drops of blood swirled around in a glass of water. I think you get the point. Anyways, choose your medium based on what is calling you (ie…the thing you cant stop hearing about inside your head) and try to have an open mind.
Take your medium (shuffle and mix your cards, roll and toss your sticks and bones) put a few drops of olive oil in a glass of water and swirl it. Clear your mind as you do this..now think of a question…what is it you wish to know?(careful what you wish for) Look at the oil on the water as it settles into a shape. What images or shapes do you get from the oil? Does it resemble an animal? If so, what does that animal personally mean to you? If you are a dog person, and you see cat, chances are, the answer to your question is one you wont like hearing. Do you see a dragon? Then the answer to your question is that you will have strong success. Do you see a heart torn apart? Uhoh. Basically, look at the shapes, the negative and postive space from the oil and water. Then interpret the shape based on what value system and symbol correspondance you have in your life.
Here is another example. Lets say you and a friend are outside enjoying the sunshine, and you are tired of him complaining about when hes going to find a new job. Try out your diviantion technique with cloud divining. Clouds are one of the best and easiest ways to learn divination, strengthen psychic gifts, and it does put you in synchronicity with the element of air, making you smarter, more creative, happier, and uplifted. Anyways, … the clouds…fast moving, billowy, low to the earth, moist…these will yield the most accurate results. Forget about using high stratus or even slow lumbering cumulous. Low and moist, fast puffy ones are best.
Hear your friends question inside your mind, trust in yourself…now…what is that cloud turning into? Does it look like a car? Then your friend will very soon get a job. Does it look like a boat? This ship may move slow. Is the cloud looking like a turtle? Tell your friend to get off his ass and pound the pavement! Wait….is the cloud separating? Into how many pieces? He may not get the job until as many weeks pass as the cloud has divided into parts.
Give it a try…it takes a few times, but record what you get from your “readings” and check back after a decent amount of time has passed. As you become familiar with your own symbol system, and you learn to relax, you will see accuracy.
You know I have said before that life is a sea of energy…fluid and ever changing. We are beings who are made up of energy and we are subject to the natural laws of this physical world, despite the yet unproven and invisible qualities it maintains.
I hear all the time, I was just going to do one thing on my laptop but then it blew out, or, I blew out the house electricity because I wanted to use my hairdryer, or I blew up this, or I shorted out that. And it frequently seems to happen at very important and crucial times, or when you have elevated stress levels, or low physical strength.
I frequently hear this from energy workers and individuals who have specialized qualities. But every human has a unique and individual energetic vibrational rate.
When we perceive things, events and people as “negative” or “positive”, we may simply be trying to make sense of the feeling we get when interacting with an individual who is simpatico, or non-simpatico with our own energetic vibrancy.
There are times when you meet someone, and you KNOW you don’t like them, but for no real or apparent reason. Other times, we experience the feeling of instant attraction, or even more important, the transcending feeling of love at first sight (which by the way, DOES exist!)
What I’m getting at here, is that two energies will either mesh well together, like correct and contiguous puzzles pieces, or they will repel one another. Why is this important? Because from what I’m suspecting, you are starting to, or have already realized, just how much your own personal energy will affect others, as well as other electromagnetic energy sources, like your laptop, car, stereo, tv, etc.
Where I’m going with this is to here…..helping you to understand why you are blowing out your equipment, how to prevent it from happening, and how to start being able to control your own power.
Here is what I’m recommending…..
For those of you sick of blowing out your hard rive, you should really become adept at grounding out, because you are a conductor of electricity. When entering a room or space where you will have to interact with a piece of electromagnetic equipment, first ground out.
You do this by having feet flat on the ground. En visualize yourself growing roots from your feet that go into the earth. You are touching the earths core, letting excessive energy leave you and flow into the earth.
Raise your hands up to the sky, and outstretch your arms. Face your palms up to the sky, and allow the universe then, to pull the excess out of your hands and upward. Know that upon grounding out, that you are now neutral, and you neither have too much, or a depletion of, energy. You are at level zero.
Now to further your efforts of energetic balance, center yourself. This is necessary because when you have a strong energetic center or core, you will be able to maintain your own adequate supply of energy, neither needing to let off excess, or drain from, another sources’ reserves.
To center, put your hands down at your sides, relax. Focus on your solar plexus (the stomach area) . Feel heat growing in your own core, feel it pulse, it helps to see it as the color of golden light. It continues to grow and get stronger….as it grows, it wants to push outward to your extremities.
Allow it to run through your body, and with each incoming breath, push it around your body and auric field. Energy moves like a cycle in the body, around and around, so let it run its’ course with you, let it cycle through you, but remember that this is only your own energy…not from any external source.
As you expand and contract your conduit, when you feel ready, take one final deep exhalation, and with the next inhalation, suck in or bring in all your personal energy back into that stomach center and feel it tight like a ball sitting in your stomach. En visualize all the golden power centered right in your stomach area, or your solar plexus chakra.
You have now cycled your own energy through your body, and you have fed yourself and healed yourself. You are now centered, stable, empowered and balanced.
The reason why this will work, is that normally, you are either energetically depleted, or energetically overloaded, so your body will seek to automatically readjust itself from whatever source it has access to. Unfortunately, that may be from electronics or even another person (not always good).
For those of you that this phenomena occurs with regularity, than you do need to pay special attention to your own energetic levels and reserves. Your body will seek to achieve balance in whatever way it can, usually from from the path of least resistance, which can be your computer, car, radio, cell phone even.
I know I speak of visualization techniques a lot, but thoughts really are things, and things have energy. As you learn to train your mind, your bodies, both physical and subtle, will respond in kind.
As you become used to automatically pre-adjusting your energy level before coming in contact with equipment, then you may find that you are more energetic, healthier, less depressed, and experiencing many less blow outs with your machines.
I get asked frequently, "Jinn, how can I energetically cleanse my life…my pet, family, my house, my workplace, myself?". Here are some easy and helpful ways for you to banish unwanted energy from your life.
To purify yourself, your pets, kids, energetically.
Obtain Native American White Sage, assemble it into a bundle, if not already in a bunch, and light it, blow out the flame. Let the smoke fill the area around yourself, giving special attention to your 7 chakras. Using a feather or fan can assist with the purification. Why does this work? It works because herbs are given divine powers from God, that’s why:) Leave the windows open if you are indoors. Watch out for falling ash. Traditionally, this sage ritual is used with a feather to fan the smoke, and the sage is held over an abalone shell to catch the falling ash.
Take a bath. Run your bath water, and add REAL sea salt…about a half cup for a full bath. Soak in the tub as long as you feel the need, but here is the thing….STAY IN THE WATER TILL IT IS ALL DRAINED AWAY. When we take baths, we make the fundamental mistake of getting out of the bath before we drain the tub. This defeats the entire purpose of bathing, which is to purify body, mind, and soul. Stay in the tub till the water is gone, as the water and salt drain down, so will they pull out of your body, negativity, illness, stress, and bad vibes.
Make lunar or solar waters. Get a glass jar with a lid, put your drinking water in it, and hold it in your hands. Tell the water you need it to purify you and that you need cleansing. Ask the water for healing, and it will respond in kind. Then set it out under the moon for a night, or in the sun for a day, and then drink it. You can add even more strength to it, it you dilute it. The more something is diluted, the stronger it works. This is one of the main theories of Classical Homeopathy. Add one to five drops of your prepared solar or lunar water, to another bottle of water. Even though there will be only one to five drops of the solar water in the new bottle of water, those 5 drops are incredibly powerful. We are used to the "more is better" syndrome in western cultures. But the more something is diluted, the stronger the effect, energetically, it will have on the body.
Develop a set of hand gestures, that when used, will cleanse you. Yes, this is psychological programming, but it works well. Sometimes, when I am stressed, I make a certain motion with my hands, to symbolize to my brain, "OK, stress is leaving the building now". And it works. Remember that when you declare something to be so, then so it is. (witches say, "So Mote It be", which means essentially that if I declare a thing to be a certain thing, then so it shall become that certain thing). Learn to associate a certain hand movement with release, purification, and cleansing. It is very convenient to train yourself at this, because if during your day, you all of a sudden encounter negativity, you want to be able to get rid of it fast. Gestures are easy to learn, effective, and usually you can do them without attracting much attention to yourself.
Make an herbal tea and empower it with your will to cleanse and purify yourself. Just hold the prepared cup of tea in your hands, and en-visualize your personal power flowing into the cup, and the tea is ready to heal. You can either drink it (if you know what the herb is, and how it affects the body) or you can let it cool, put it in a spray bottle, and use it to mist your aura. I like to use rosemary or mint, as these herbs are common, safe, and effective.
For those who need more effectiveness, try a more exotic herb. If you are using a new herb, for god sakes, research it first. (I hate hearing of complaints from uneducated people who blame herbs for their own careless mistakes in self treatment. If I had a penny for all the friggin times I have heard someone complain about how herbs harmed them…well hello, you are on prescribed blood thinners, and then you take an anti coagulant herb like ginkgo, and what do you think will happen?…do the research first)
To purify space, like your home, workplace, etc….you can mist the area with your tea, solar or lunar water, or sea salt water, or you can sage the space. You can also create a set of hand gestures to signal the space has been cleansed, if you feel that your own personal power is strong enough to do the job.
To purify objects, mist them with your tea or waters. Or plunge the object in dry sea salt for a few days. Or, for smaller objects that are very negatively charged, tie them to a tree branch when you know rain is coming, and let the rain purify the item. Or bury the item in soil for a few days. Or take it to a river or the ocean, and rinse it in the running water (hold on tight!)
For the advanced, empower a candle or paper, or twigs, or herbs, and visualize the negative energies being absorbed into the paper/candle/twigs. So now, these items become the negativity, and then we burn these items, thereby banishing the negativity. Yes, I will admit…this is magick.
If you try these things, and still nothing changes, then it may be time to ask for assistance. Sometimes the job is beyond your own skill to heal. In that case, consider asking for help in your cleansing process.

I am an Augur.
The definition of augury is essentially the definition of divination, which is the process of deciphering signs to predict the future. But the practice of augury stems from nature, and using signs from nature specifically, rather than the term divination, which describes the art of deciphering the future using any means really, whether it be from tea leaves left in a cup and saucer, tarot cards, a pendulum, or the flight patterns of birds. So, all augury is divination, but not all divination is augury.
In Ancient Rome, at the college of Augurs of Rome, there were initially 5 official Augurs, men who whose job it was to decipher signs in nature to predict outcomes of public events and issues. They would use thunder and lightening, comets, stars, animals, birds, odd events, to predict the future. The number of official state appointed augurs continued to grow in Rome and the variety of ways they would perform the auguries grew as well, as there are limitless ways that signs appear to us in life. In augury, there were two classes, or ways to define the sign. Class 1 is a sign that appears because a question is being posed, and it is called Auspicia Impetrativa. Class 2 is an unasked-for sign that appears randomly, called Auspicia Oblativa. The augurs at the College in Rome were only concerned with class 1, as their duty was to look into official acts of the Republic/Empire, and if the outcome of the augury was good, ie, a good omen, the act would proceed. If the outcome of the augury was unfavorable, the events were delayed until a better time.1
I am an Augur. Ok, so I don’t work for the Roman Republic , but I live in a modernized version of the republic, because I live in the US, and this is the most Romanized civilization I have ever known, other than the actual time Rome existed two thousand years ago. Anyway back to me and my life as an augur.
For years, I have looked to animals, nature, and odd events to predict other events, to predict the future. I know that the earth is a living organism in and of itself, and animals and weather, stones, plants, stars, man, everything is linked by the spirit of the divine. The thunder will come if you call it (you know what I’m talking about) and the moon will be where you want it to be, when you want it. Everything in existence is linked together by everything else in an unending web, from the center of the source of the all.
Birds… I look up and see a hawk, and it is a good sign, unless I hear their hungry cry, and then I know that there is a need that will remain unfulfilled. If I see two hawks playing up in the air, circling, intermingling, flying in figure eights, I know there will be love. If I am stressed or angry, and I don’t want to be, then I summon the vultures to me, and they do come, and then they carry away whatever I don’t want. But If I am doing augury, and I ask for an omen about a random subject in general, and then I see the vulture, then I know it is an unfavorable omen. When I ask a question, and I see a butterfly, does it come toward me (good), fly away (bad) does it go from left to right (good) or right to left (bad)?
One day on a walk, I had a sudden vision of a snake wrapped around me, but I was startled out of the vision by a red car speeding too fast and too close by me. A minute later down the road, I saw a dead snake that had just been run over by the car that had just passed me by so close. I moved it to the side of the road in the dirt, and then I kept walking. On my way back up the road, I saw a hatchling (a baby snake) scooting across the road with the same markings I had noticed from the dead snake. I witnessed a full cycle of death and life on my walk, and it all started with a day dream of a snake squeezing me. After the walk, in my life, a series of events occured that prompted me to make important changes in myself. That is what a vision quest is. You may not see it coming, but when it happens, it is profound. This perhaps, would be considered augury of class 2 Auspicia Oblativa.
Late at night when I am thinking, and I pose a question in a formal augurial manner, Auspicia Impetrativa, (such as “will I get this”…or what will happen with that”…) I will hear the owls outside respond to my thoughts, as if on cue. I will hear the sharp shrill metallic scream of the screech owl, and I know the outcome will be difficult in the current thought or topic. If I hear the barn owl, I know things will be less intense and slower. Outside…the Bats, they are trouble. The closer they get, the more trouble is coming. When I hear the coyotes cackle and howl because they made a kill, then I know that the bonds between individuals will hold, and all will work together to overcome the odds. And then there are the invisibles, and the whisperers, and well…um..no comment.
My vocation is augury; it is a challenge and a gift. However, I dont live in pagan Rome where I would have been highly respected and regarded. In perhaps most major civilizations, augury, divination, fortune telling, reading omens, were so important to everyone…the individual and the society as a whole. Divination was part of the structure of functioning government in most cultures of times past. Egypt, China, Greece, Rome, the Aztecs, the Maya, Native America. But then the practice of augury had to go underground because of certain religions, as the doctrines of the judeo/christian/Islamic traditions do not allow or approve of divination in any form. So as a modern-day augur, it is hard to get respect.
Those that turn to a diviner, psychic, or augur, don’t openly discuss it with their friends and family, and quite often, they are talking to me in secret. Which is ok, I perfectly understand why, and it does not offend me. We live in a society and time where it is not always socially acceptable to openly discuss matters of the occult. But I hope that will someday change, because in the huge and vast subject of the occult, there are wonderful things to learn, and great secrets to know, and one of these jewels is the ancient art of augury.
